Why Schedule a Roof Inspection?

With warmer weather finally on the horizon, it is important to ensure that your roof is in top condition. With the harsh cold temperatures, snow, and wind of the winter season, making sure your roof is in excellent condition is imperative.

How to know if you might need a roof repair or a roof replacement?

The best way to determine whether you might need a roof contractor to do an inspection of your roof is any time after a strong storm (whether ice or rain) with strong winds or hail. Storm damage is usually the biggest indicator that there could potentially be something wrong with your roof as strong winds can easily tear off loose shingles and fallen objects such as tree limbs and debris.

Did you know that the age of your roof can affect your ability to place a claim should your roof encounter wind and hail damage?

Signs of Wind Damage to Your Roof

  • Loose asphalt shingles
  • Creased or cracked asphalt shingles
  • Holes in foundation (decking)

What is Preventative Roof Maintenance?

  • Visually inspect your shingles
    • This can be done from the ground as well as on top of a ladder. It’s highly recommended that you do both.
    • Check your shingles to see if any are loose or out of place entirely. In addition, check for curling, cracks, and areas where they are raised slightly (unwanted undergrowth).
  • Check for Streaking
    • If your roof has darker than normal coloring in some areas, or if it has green spots, your roof may have some streaking. The discoloration is due to algae/moss/mold/fungus/mildew growth. This is common in roofs that are under a lot of shade for the majority of the year.
  • Check Your Gutters
    • Your gutters divert run-off from rain and storms. If your gutters are blocked with leaves, sand, dirt, and other debris, they cannot effectively divert the run-off.
    • This can cause issues such as leaks and mold spots inside your home; more cases of unwanted fungal growth; clogging, which increases the weight of the gutter, which then causes the gutter to pull against the roof, causing damage; and unpleasant odors, to name a few.
    • Be sure you are periodically checking and cleaning your gutters to avoid these bigger problems!
